Hulk Hogan has stated that he'd like to wrestle one final match for WWE at WrestleMania, but he wants it to be against the company's owner Vince McMahon.
Speaking to WrestlingAC.com while the company were visiting Saudi Arabia earlier this month, the former world champion expressed regret at the way his in-ring career had finished. Particularly that his last match was in TNA and not in WWE.
“History is very important to me. I’ve had a very long career and part of my career was with a very, very small company and a very gracious lady named Dixie Carter at TNA. I had actually my last match there. That’s hard for me to live with. I want my last match to be in the WWE.
Hogan's current curtain closer was on the TNA Maximum Impact Tour of the UK in 2012, teaming up with James Storm and Sting to defeat Bobby Roode, Bully Ray and Kurt Angle. Yes, you've read all of that correctly and, yes, TNA was absolutely insane back then. Not quite as insane as the prospect of Hogan vs Vince at WrestleMania, but certainly up there.
“The one I’d love to get in the ring with if I only had one person? It would be Vince McMahon. I’ve been pushing and negotiating very hard and I’m getting very, very healthy again. I’m in good shape. I’m a little bit under 300 pounds, maybe 295 pounds. I’m getting ready. I’m going to have one little teeny surgery on my back, it’ll take me a couple of months to recover, but I’ve got my eyes focused on WrestleMania.'
Jim Ross is a legendary WWE commentator and he recently spoke about Hulk Hogan vs Stone Cold never happening in WWE. Hulk Hogan is regarded by many as one of the most famous professional wrestlers in the world. Stone Cold is also regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time.
After WWE bought WCW, Hulk Hogan made his way back to WWE with the NWO. However, Hulk could never reach the top of WWE after his return, although he was involved in some very important storylines, including a feud with Vince McMahon.
On his podcast, Jim revealed the real reason why Hulk vs Stone Cold never happened. According to Stone Cold, their styles actually clashed. Stone Cold never personally against the match.
“It would’ve been interesting to see,” Ross said. “You have two of the most amazing attractions in the history of pro wrestling, so I’m sure it would have been a success financially. However, artistically? Maybe, not so much.
Austin never had the confidence that he and Hogan would have enough chemistry to live up to the hype”. “There’s always been the stories that Austin didn’t like Hogan, he didn’t want to work with Hogan, which is great for the internet gossip and chatter but I just think the styles clash was more than what Steve wanted to attempt.
I don’t think it had anything to do personally with Hogan”. Ross believes that the match would never live up to the hype. He also stated that Hulk has severe back issues at the time and he couldn’t have performed that well due to those issues.
“Steve’s issue was just that Steve had a very high pace. Intense, aggressive, somewhat snug, high pace,” Jim Ross said. “That just may not have fit Hogan’s styles at the time because of his back [issues].
It would’ve been an interesting attraction. It would’ve been a great poster, a great promo, it would’ve made money. But I don’t think the match had a chance in hell of living up to the hype of the two stars”.
Stone Cold has never wrestled professionally after his last match against The Rock. Many people believed that Stone Cold will make a return, but Stone Cold has revealed multiple times that he is not interested in wrestling professionally again as he does not want to get injured again.
