The Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are set to square off at Raymond James Stadium Sunday night in Super Bowl LV. Below, we analyze the 2021 Super Bowl coin toss prop bet odds and offer our picks and predictions for the Big Game.
The Kansas City Chiefs have started Super Bowl LV with a win. As the designated road team for the game, Kansas City had the honours of calling the coin toss prior to kickoff of their Super Bowl. “The coin toss is a very popular Super Bowl prop bet,” BetMGM sports trader Darren Darby said. “Customers love early action and the coin toss gives them a chance to win before the game even.

In Super Bowl history, the results have been almost split. Tails has been the result 29 times, with heads coming up the other 25 times. Tails has been the result in six of the last seven years since Super Bowl XLVIII.
I like TAILS to continue that hot streak, because after all, tails never fails.

Chiefs-Buccaneers odds, picks and predictionHow to bet on the Super BowlBet Slippin’ PodcastAs the road team, the Chiefs will call the toss Sunday. In their eight away games this season, the Chiefs were 4-4 calling the toss. When they won the flip, they chose to defer all four times.
As for the Buccaneers, they won the toss four times in their four home games when the other team called the flip. In three of those wins, they deferred, opting to receive in Week 17 against the Atlanta Falcons.
It’s a toss-up (pun intended), but I’m leaning CHIEFS (-105) here to win the toss and defer.

DEFER (-500) is the wise choice here. Both the Chiefs and Buccaneers prefer to get the ball in the second half. The Chiefs deferred in all four of their coin toss wins as the road team this season, and the Buccaneers deferred in three of their four choices at home.

The Chiefs will be the ones calling the toss as the road team. It’s anyone’s guess what they will call at midfield, but I’ll lean TAILS (-110) here.

Sometimes the simplest bets are the most fun. Red or black? Heads or tails?
The focus today is on the latter, as Super Bowl LV between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs gets underway. The Super Bowl coin toss to start the game each year is the most popular prop bet of all.
There’s a ton of hoopla before, during and after each Super Bowl. So if you stepped away to go to the bathroom or grab a beverage – you may have missed the result of whether the coin toss landed on heads or tails.
Update: The Chiefs called “heads” and were correct as it landed on “heads.” It was the third time in the last four Super Bowls that it landed on “heads.” The all-time Big Game score for heads vs. tails is now: Tails 29, Heads 26.
Here were the coin toss odds prior to the game from top US sportsbooks like DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM.

The coin toss is the ultimate 50-50 proposition. So you wouldn’t think there would be any strategy behind betting on it, right?
Well, most folks are superstitious with this sort of stuff.
Tails has actually been the victor at the majority of Super Bowls so far. In the previous 54 Big Games, the coin came up tails 29 times. Heads came up 25 times.
The coin came up tails four times in a row, from 2014 to 2017. This came on the heels of it landing on heads from 2009 through 2013.
You can also parlay the coin toss outcome to the Super Bowl winner, though that might not be the best option. Only 25 times out of 54 tries has the team that won the coin toss also won the game.
