Gervonta Davis sure knows how to keep things interesting.

The 25-year-old Davis will be looking to add the hardware to his two reigns as a world super featherweight champion.

Earlier in the week, Davis dubbed Gamboa “cocky” after the Cuban fighter said he didn’t bother watching the Baltimore native’s crushing second-round TKO of Ricardo Nunez from July. Gamboa’s comment drew Davis’ ire.
“I’m pretty sure Gamboa watched my last fight,” Davis told reporters during the final press conference for the fight. “He’s just saying he didn’t to be cocky. I know he at least watched it heading into this fight. We’ll see Saturday night. He’s been a little cocky, so I have to make him pay.”

Whether that means adding another knockout to his flawless record (22-0 with 21 KOs) remains to be seen.
“I can’t say whether I’ll get the knockout, but I’ve trained very hard and I’ve been focused on the main goal, which is to get the win,” Davis added. “I know that Gamboa is a tough opponent and he’ll lay it all on the line. If it goes 12 rounds, it doesn’t matter to me. I’m looking to make this a great fight for me and also for the fans.”
The 38-year-old Gamboa (30-2, 18 KOs) vows that he’ll be a game challenge for “Tank” regardless of Davis’ penchant for delivering crushing knockouts.
“Gervonta knocking his opponents out and not going past the ninth round is great for him, but I don’t think it has anything to do with my resume,” Gamboa told reporters earlier in the week. “I’ve faced stronger fighters than Gervonta and I’ve been able to beat them. He’s not going to bring anything I haven’t seen.”
Will Davis show no effects from his issues at the scale and deliver another rousing KO, or will Gamboa prove to be his toughest test yet?

Gervonta Davis will make his first lightweight appearance to contest the vacant title of the World Boxing Association (WBA) against the experienced Cuban native Yuriorkis Gamboa at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
The American southpaw, who is one of the most important young fighters of today, will rise to the ring this Saturday in search of his second championship in a different weight class but first he will have to overcome a rather complicated obstacle in the Cuban born Gamboa.
Davis was champion of the super featherweight class in the WBA but now, in a new weight category, he has left the previous title to look for the next weight opportunity.
Gamboa comes into the fight with four victories in a row, a streak that has allowed him to return to fight for a world championship, and he has been especially excited to once again earn a world title belt in this confrontation.
The 38-year-old wants to impose his experience on the physical nature of Gervonta, who at 25 has incredible speed and power that projected him as one of the stars of boxing in the short term.
On Friday they will have to get into the ring to mark the 135 regulatory pounds of the division. Davis is undefeated in 22 fights, of which he has won 21 via knockout. Gamboa has 30 wins, 2 losses and 18 knockouts.
